Apart from authentic Dominican cuisine, the country also suggests a choice of unique Caribbean dishes, American, Italian and Chinese specialties. For breakfast the locals prefer to eat Mangu (a cheese, bacon, and the whipped potatoes), mashed plantains, yucca, and tropical fruits, such as papaya, passion fruit, and bananas. Lunch and dinner usually consist of a meat (goat, pork, beef, chicken and seafood) and rice in combination with light spices or coconut. The specialties of the country include Chicharrones de pollo (the pieces of fried chicken), Sopa criolla dominicana (local soup of meat and vegetables), Pastelón (baked vegetable cake). Rum drinks are very popular, especially the local Brugal or Bermudez.
